Rabbi accused of money laundering forbidden to travel

A U.S. judge has denied a request by a rabbi under indictment for money laundering to travel to Israel to circumcise his grandson.

Eliahu Ben Haim has never missed a family bris. From Monmouth County to Brooklyn to Israel, the 58-year-old rabbi was there to do the honor for each of his first 13 grandsons’ ritual circumcisions.

But Ben Haim, arrested in last summer’s massive FBI sting, won’t make it for grandson number 14.

A federal judge in Newark yesterday denied the rabbi’s request to modify his bail conditions so he could travel to Israel to perform the ceremony.
